Blitz Kuchen

Enjoying this super easy and super yummy coffee cake that was my Grandmother's recipe. The whole family loves it. Even my nephews have learned to make it.

My boyfriend tried it with organic milk, blueberries and a dash of whipping cream, which made for one incredible breakfast....

Ingredients

2 cups flour
1 ½ cups sugar
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
½ tsp salt
3 Tbsp butter or margarine (softened but not melted)
1 cup plain yogurt or buttermilk (or 1 cup milk with 1 Tbsp lemon juice)
1 egg
Cinnamon
Directions

Grease 2 8-inch round pans or 1 9x13 pan.
Preheat oven to 350 for round pans and 325 for 9x13 pan.
Combine dry ingredients (flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt).
Cut in butter with a pastry blender or fork until crumbly and well mix.
Reserve 1 cup of mixture for topping.
Add buttermilk and egg to the remaining mixture; mix only until blended – do not beat.
Pour into pan.
Top with reserved mixture.
Sprinkle with cinnamon.
Bake 25 minutes for round pans. Bake 30-35 minutes for 9x13.

Crazy Happy Snow Dog

This dog makes me extremely happy!

Stencils

I'm into stencils right now. I'm about to put up some Ed Roth stencils in my bedroom.

Also loving this Obama stencil. I think Obama is the most stencil-able President(elect) ever. I hope to see an abundance of Obama Art throughout the next 4 to 8 years....

And speaking of cool Obama art..... freakin' ETCH-A-SKETCH!

Remnants of the Storm

I loved the pattern and color of these leaves, with the edge of bright green moss, on the parking lot pavement at McMenamin's Umbrie Hall.

Brrrrrr!

Having a very icy Christmas this year.  This is the third day I've been snowed in, and may not be the last. May be until WEDNESDAY at least until I can get out in my car. Walked to Whole Foods with my back pack and filled it up with goodies and firewood and trudged back home.

Everything was covered with a 1/4 inch layer of ice, and few people were out and about.  Grateful that Whole Foods is close enough to walk to and open for business!

Failed at Toffee-Making Attempt #2. Got the thickness to work (worked  out the correct pan size for the batch BEFORE pouring hot buttery mixture into it....) and worked out the chocolate melting, but it's still got butter streaks across the chocolate, making it look not very appetizing... Oh well. Think I'll stick to cookies....

Soup for a Snow Day

Made this wonderful Chunky Celery and Wild Rice soup (via 101 Cookbooks) this week when I was home from work on a Snow Day. It turned out fantastic, and it was even better the second day, always the sign of a good soup.
